In early December 2025, severe **floods and landslides devastated large areas of Sumatra Island, particularly Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces. Torrential monsoon rains and cyclone-driven weather caused rivers to overflow, destroying homes, crops, and infrastructure. According to disaster agencies, over 3.2 million people were affected, more than 2,600 were injured, and hundreds remained missing. As the floodwaters surged, around one million residents were evacuated to safer areas, while authorities worked tirelessly on rescue operations. The disaster became one of the worst in recent Indonesian history, highlighting the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience against extreme weather.
