Friday, 09 May 2025 - SM Entertainment's huge SMTOWN Live concert in Mexico has not managed to sell out all the available tickets. Empty seats were seen in some parts of the venue, sparking conversations among fans about the promotion strategy and ticket prices that were considered less pocket-friendly.
SM Entertainment, the giant entertainment agency from South Korea, held the SMTOWN Live 2025 concert at Foro Sol, Mexico City. The concert featured a lineup of famous artists such as NCT, Red Velvet, EXO, and aespa. Although the artists' performances remained stunning, the public's attention was drawn to the many empty seats seen during the concert.
According to local media reports and social media posts, most areas in the upper stands appeared unfilled. Some fans suspected the high ticket prices to be one of the main causes.
“I want to come, but the ticket prices are really expensive, especially for those of us who live outside the city,” wrote a fan on Twitter.
In addition to prices, promotions that are considered less massive in the Latin American region are also highlighted. Compared to other successful K-pop concerts in the region, the promotion of SMTOWN concerts is considered not as lively as usual. Nevertheless, the concert was still lively for the fans who attended. The artists showed their best performance by performing hit songs, energetic choreography, and warm interaction with the audience.
Some entertainment industry observers see this as a reminder that global popularity still requires the right local strategies, from price adjustments to a more intensive promotional approach. Although the concert tickets were not sold out, the enthusiasm of the fans who attended remained high. SM Entertainment is expected to evaluate their strategy for the international market so that next time, similar concerts can reach more audiences.
