Sunday, May 18, 2025 - A resident of Pinang Sub-district complained about unfair treatment from the garbage collectors, following the garbage at his house not being collected for two consecutive days. This incident became a concern because the late payment of the resident's garbage fee had previously been approved by the Head of the local RT.
Ms. Dewi, the concerned resident, explained that she had informed the RT Head that she would be slightly late in paying the fee and promised to pay it on May 10. The RT head accepted and approved the request. However, despite having received official permission, on the promised date the garbage men did not collect the garbage from Ibu Dewi's house, while other neighbors' houses were still served.
“I told the RT and he agreed, so I thought there would be no problem. But it turned out that our garbage was not collected. Whereas there are other neighbors who are in arrears for more than three months and are still picked up,” said Ibu Dewi in a disappointed tone.
Feeling unfairly treated, Ibu Dewi directly reprimanded the janitor. However, the response she received was less than polite, which further fueled her disappointment. To settle the argument, Ibu Dewi finally decided to pay the fee for the next four months.
The head of the local neighborhood has taken this complaint seriously. He said he would call the officer concerned for clarification and emphasized the importance of fair treatment to all residents. “Ms. Dewi has given permission and we have agreed. There should be no arbitrary treatment. We will evaluate the cleaning service so that cases like this are not repeated,” said the Head of RT.
This incident emphasizes the importance of consistency, professionalism, and good communication in community service. Residents hope that in the future there will be no more discrimination in handling fees or other public services.
